The Computer

Invention: The Computer

The Computer has changed society greatly in how people get instant information on news, communicate with distant friends or family and learning about a wide variety of topics. From war to teaching, business and entertainment. This technology is used in everyday life by many people all over the world.

An invention that led up to the computer was the calculator. Made during World War II, the calculator would fill up an entire room. The purpose was to solve long math problems. A calculator would speed up the solving process and get the right answer.

  1. I love computers and don't know what I would do without them. What would life be like today if they weren't around? No smart phones? I don't even want to think about it! I am surrounded by technology and couldn't imagine my life without it, I might be outside more, I am sure. :)

  2. I have lived without computers and smart phones and such. Tricia is right. We spent alot of time outside.
We got by because we didn't know better. Would be hard to go back to a time without these things.
Its made things easier. Its made things more interesting.
But I also think its made relationships far less personal, than I remember. At the risk of sounding sappy, I feel sorry that generations growing up today may never know that kind of relationship with others, (Family and friends). We just don't communicate in the same fashion anymore. We don't have to.
Now we can share everything that happens with the whole world. Connected yet detached.

  3. Imagine how much less advanced we would be without the computer! And with the invention of the internet too it was created another world for us to explore. If it wasn't for the computer i wouldnt be able to keep in touch as much as I have with my friends and family back home. My telephone bill would probably be a lot bigger though :P

  4. I have no clue what I would do without my computer! Technology has definitely changed the world. Im lucky to have been born in 1990, tight when computers were around but they weren't all that popular just yet. I dont remember my family having a computer until probably 1997. Im happy i was born into that time period because i feel (like Lynda said) that i was still playing outside with friends and running around in the streets all summer long because I wasn't so consumed with the internet and i didnt know any better.
