First successful flight: by the Wright brothers
Date: Dec. 17, 1903
Flight time: 12 seconds
Distance: 120 feet
Location: Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
The History Channel claims that the Wright Brothers' fasination for flying was started in 1878 when their father gave them a toy. The object would fly through the air from being pulled back by a rubber band.
Years later on the historic day the Wright Brothers had done several more tests and set the record for flying time up to 59 seconds, 47 seconds longer than the first flight. Since the invention people are able to travel even farther and to different continents without taking a boat.

I am sure a lot of people think, 12 minutes, wooptee doo - but it's so cool! Can you imagine how those guys felt when they were successful? I would love to have been there for that.
ReplyDeleteLife changing invention for me personally too. If it wasnt for flight it would take me an awful long time to travel back and forth from America via boat and the airplane has expanded our limits of travel. Imagine how terrifying it would be though to fly for the first time...not knowing if your were going to land safely or not. Air travel has come so far and is statistically known to be the safest form of transport than any other transport to this day
ReplyDeleteIt's been almost 110 years since the first successful flight. And since then planes have changed dramatically! 110 years does seem like a long time but now there are so many kinds of airplanes and different airlines it's kind of hard to believe a time where we didnt have airplanes.
